The Research Centre on Interactive Media, Smart Systems and Emerging Technologies (RISE) is a newly founded research and innovation Centre of Excellence in Cyprus designed to integrate academic research and industrial innovation towards sustainable fuelling of the scientific, technological and economic growth of Cyprus and Europe. The Centre will conduct excellent, internationally competitive scientific research in the areas of visual sciences, human factors and design, communication, and artificial intelligence delivered by high-calibre multidisciplinary research teams. RISE will engage in knowledge transfer and innovation activities aiming to bridge the gap between scientific research and STEM-led innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Centre is seeking a Chief Innovation Officer (CINO) to join its fast-growing team of passionate and enthusiastic professionals. RISE is an equal opportunity employer and the position is open to everyone, internationally.
Main responsibilities include:

  1. Develop and articulate a future-focused vision for the Innovation Division’s contribution to the organisation’s mission and identify opportunities to maximise mission impact and drive alignment with organisation strategic objectives.
  2. Brainstorms with the team to discover new solutions and approaches to old problems.
  3. Formulates effective new ideas and innovative strategies for product development, marketing or business opportunities.
  4. Recognises promising ideas and finds ways to introduce them into the organisation’s future plans and discards ideas that are ineffective, costly, or beyond the scope of the company’s mission or abilities.
  5. Develops strategies with product development teams to transform general ideas into workable solutions.
  6. Analyses existing practices to isolate areas ripe for improvement or enhancement.
  7. Encourages creative thinking in employees and finds ways to nurture innovative thinking across all areas of the company.
  8. Follows industry and society responses to new ideas, tracks and analyses the success of new products or services and responds to market questions or concerns.
  9. Monitors research and development of other organisations to spot trends in innovation and supplement research findings in the organisation’s industry.
  10. Establishes and evaluates the progress of innovation and adjusts the pace or direction of new projects in accordance.
  11. Keeps all new projects in line with the organisation’s mission and maintains consistency with the organisation’s message and brand.
  12. Represents the Innovation Division as a contributing member to the Leadership Team’s work on organisation-wide strategy development, mission achievement, promoting a healthy organisation in all aspects and fostering cross-divisional collaboration.
Profile of the ideal candidate
Requisite qualifications, characteristics, and experience
Ideal candidates for the position will be conspicuously passionate about RISE’s mission; poised and confident with executive presence; manifest leadership, professionalism, and interpersonal acumen. All candidates are expected to be capable of serving as a trusted advisor in the area of thought leadership, standards, professional learning and research and evaluation. Ideal candidates will possess an innovative and progressive nature and have a demonstrated track record of entrepreneurship.
Ideal candidates for the position will also present the following:
  1. A minimum of ten years’ experience leading and directing a multi-department division in technology or related industry.
  2. A minimum of five years’ experience in strategic program development and business model development.
  3. Demonstrated private-sector experience in the development and bringing-to-market of programs and services within the context of sustainable business models that both fulfil mission and drive net revenue.
  4. Proven track record in IPR portfolio development and management and spin-offs.
  5. Doctorate or Master’s degree, and extensive experience, preferably in technology.
  6. Experience in international business and business-related experience in a cross-cultural environment.
  7. Well-versed in human resources and personnel management.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities 
  1. Possess an inquisitive and creative mind.
  2. Independent and self-directed but able to work and lead a team of creative individuals.
  3. Superior research and analytical skills to track and predict trends.
  4. Able to work creatively within a budget and use innovation to find ways to effectively manage resources.
  5. Strong business knowledge, understanding of a variety of business practices and familiarity with the high tech industry.
  6. Able to collaborate with executives, creative teams, and research and development teams.
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to persuasively sell ideas.
  8. Willing to take calculated risks and manage expectations of both internal development teams and potential and existing customers.
  9. Excellent knowledge of English
